How to Measure Your Dog for Clothing | Size Chart & Recommender

Getting the right fit for blank dog hoodies and tees is simple. Measure your dog’s neck, chest (girth), and back length, then compare to our dog size chart or use our Size Recommender for an instant suggestion.

What You’ll Need

  • Soft measuring tape (fabric/sewing tape)
  • Notes app or pen & paper
  • A few treats to keep your pup happy and still

Step 1: Measure the Neck

Wrap the tape around the base of your dog’s neck where a collar naturally sits. Keep it snug-not tight-and leave two fingers of space for comfort.

Step 2: Measure the Chest (Girth)

Place the tape just behind the front legs and wrap it around the widest part of the chest. This is the most important measurement for dog hoodies and tees.

Step 3: Measure the Back Length

Measure from the base of the neck (where it meets the shoulders) straight down the back to the start of the tail. For fluffy coats or a looser fit, you can round up slightly.

Common Measuring Mistakes to Avoid

  • Pulling the tape too tight (no wiggle room)
  • Measuring the chest too high—keep it just behind the front legs
  • Skipping the chest measurement entirely
